The Great is a fictionalized play on history. It takes a look at Catherine the Great's rise to becoming one of the most famous women to ever live. She arrives in St. Petersburg to her new home as just a young and naïve girl. She quickly realizes the way things are doesn't suit her, so she seeks to change them. Will she take the country for herself? Could she kill her new husband, Emperor Peter (Nicholas Hoult)? Viewers will have to tune in to see what happens.

Will there be a season 2 of 'The Great'?
Fans are already pondering the thought of whether or not there will be a season 2 of The Great. Elle Fanning is a marvel as the determined and hilarious Catherine. She recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about her new show and she was asked about season 2. She gave a very positive answer for eager fans.
"There is a possibility, and it is open to having a second season. We can't say that, we don't know, but I definitely know that Tony is for sure thinking beyond [season 1]. He has more stories," Fanning said.
Fanning's interview isn't the only one giving fans hope for more seasons of The Great to come in the future. Decider spoke with executive producer Marian Macgowan at the Winter TCA where she talked about making more seasons. "We initially pitched six seasons. So we believe there's sufficient material to take us through until she is an old woman," Macgowan said. It sounds like a second season is a real possibility.
Elle Fanning talks about being an executive producer on the series
Fanning recently spoke on the Variety After Show on Instagram Live, which is presented by National Geographic. She talked about how The Great is her first experience as an executive producer for a television series. She describes trying to have her "voice heard" and that it's all an absorbing process with all the details involved.
"There's a lot of execs, and it's a big production, so I was trying to get my voice heard," she said. "I think I grew in confidence with that, and realized that I have some good points and was able to speak up on those phone calls as it went along," Fanning recalled. "When you're a part of it and you're so passionate about it, it just makes it all the better. You want to watch every edit, you want to listen to every music cue, you care about it so much when you're with it from the very beginning."
